West Virginia Wesleyan College to host 2024 North Central West Virginia Honor Band Nov. 17-19

BUCKHANNON, West Virginia – West Virginia Wesleyan College is hosting the 2024 North Central West Virginia Honor Band Nov. 17-19.  More than 120 students from 35 different schools around the state will arrive Sunday, Nov. 17 and will spend three days on campus, engaging in rehearsals, team-building activities, and several other events geared towards making the honor band experience truly unique.

Guest conductors for this year’s honor band are Dr. Mike Fansler, professor of music and director of bands at Western Illinois University and David Maccabee, who recently retired as associate director of bands at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts and was director of bands at United Township High School in Illinois for 30 years.

“Wesleyan’s Honor Band is rapidly becoming a highly competitive and sought after event year after year. I am incredibly proud of not only the support from the college community, but the outpouring of interest from music programs and directors from around the state. What started 3 years ago as just an idea on paper has blossomed into a meaningful experience for students and directors. I’m excited to welcome David and Mike to campus, who have such a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with the students in their respective groups.”

The middle school honor band finale concert will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. The high school honor band concert will take place  at 5 p.m. in the Virginia Thomas Law Performing Arts Center. Admission is free to the events.

The Wesleyan Jazz Band will provide a concert in the PAC on Monday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. for attendees.
