What attracted you to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Program at WVWC?
After graduating with my bachelor’s degree in psychology, I felt lost and uncertain about my path. I moved to West Virginia to stay with my parents for a few months while I looked for direction. I was put in contact with a well-regarded mental health professional who recommended this program. After attending the information session in the fall of 2023, I realized this was my path and worked tirelessly on my application over the next few days.
What do you like most about the CMHC Program? I like the cohort model and the small class sizes.
I was attracted to the program by the small cohort size, the mix of asynchronous and synchronous classes, and in-person weekends twice a year. I am grateful for my cohort and my professors; I could not ask for a better group of people.
Why do you want to go into the counseling field?
I have struggled with my mental health for as long as I can remember, but these experiences shaped who I am today. They drive my desire to help others, which gives my life purpose. I will be the first to admit I do not have all the answers, but I approach every problem with curiosity and a growth mindset.
Anything else you’d like us to know?
I have a miniature schnauzer named Pete who likes “attending” class with me. He is often asleep in his bed beside my computer.
