The Social Action Coordinator of the Center for Community Engagement & Leadership Development will report to the Director of Community Engagement & Leadership Development. The coordinator will work closely with faculty, community partners, students, and other interested individuals to further develop our focus on social justice. The coordinator will be primarily responsible for the WE LEAD peer leadership council, logistics and event coordination, and support of the Wesleyan Service Scholars program. In addition, the position will actively provide opportunities for the Wesleyan community to be involved in leadership programming and service opportunities.
A bachelor’s degree is a requirement for this position, and one to three years of relevant work experience is preferred. The Coordinator’s role demands flexibility, with some evening and weekend hours expected to fulfill the duties of the position. This flexibility is crucial to the success of the role and should be considered when applying.
Duties include:
- Overseeing and coordinating the WE LEAD peer leadership council and social justice issue teams through team consultations, logistics support, facilitating team evaluations, advising students through individual check-in meetings, recruitment, orientations/retreats, and programming
- Coordinating and supporting annual service events on campus, including Division II Day, Upshur
County Children’s Festival, Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods, and others as needed
- Managing and expanding more than 20 community partner relationships by communicating regularly about community needs, organization capacity needs, and student needs
- Supporting the Wesleyan Service Scholars (WSS) program by advising students, placing students in the community, ensuring students meet scholarship requirements, organizing first-year spring semester student meetings, and interviewing potential students for the program
- Reinforcing recruitment efforts to affinity groups in the region in cooperation with Admissions for the Wesleyan Service Scholars program
- Offering workshops and training sessions relevant to community engagement and leadership development to other campus departments
- Managing service and community engagement opportunities through calendar and marketing support
- Writing stories for monthly CCE newsletters and other communications for dissemination to a broad audience of alumni & friends

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic social media platforms
Preferred candidate qualities and skills include:
- Analytical and quantitative reasoning skills
- Leadership development knowledge and programming experience
- Project management experience
- Program evaluation and assessment experience
- Coaching with an emphasis on holistic student wellness
