POSITION: Full-Time

A tenure-track faculty position is open in Biochemistry to begin as early as January 2025, depending on the availability of the chosen candidate. The successful candidate will teach a mix of lecture and laboratories in biochemistry, introductory chemistry, and advanced chemistry (in the candidate’s area of expertise). A Ph.D. in biochemistry is preferred, but promising ABD will be considered. The ideal candidate will have substantial classroom teaching experience, the ability to enrich the laboratory courses, expertise in biochemistry, strong instrumentation skills, and the desire to engage students in undergraduate research. The successful candidate must establish a culture of safe laboratory practice, have strong communication skills, and be able to collaborate with department staff.

The position is funded by the WV-IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Faculty Recruitment Grant in an effort to strengthen the goals of the WV-INBRE program. The new hire is expected to develop a research program for undergraduate students with an emphasis on chronic disease in humans. The flexible January-May start date will allow time to establish a research lab before beginning teaching responsibilities in the 2025-26 academic year. Applicants with concentrations in biochemistry, bioorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and/or chemical biology that can contribute to the WV-INBRE research theme are preferred.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry offers B.A. & B.S. chemistry, B.S. biochemistry, B.S. materials chemistry, and B.S. pharmaceutical science majors. It is housed in the Christopher Hall of Science and the Reemsnyder Research Center, which have facilities for organic/bioorganic teaching and research and are well equipped with modern instrumentation. The department has acquired over $700,000 in external grants in past six years, and the majority of Wesleyan chemistry/biochemistry students pursue graduate, medical, and professional schools.
