Director of Athletic Marching Band

West Virginia Wesleyan College, a traditional residential campus, founded in 1890 as a United Methodist related institution, invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Athletic Marching Band to begin as soon as candidate is available. The College is recognized for academic excellence in many areas, including placement of 12 Fulbright Scholars and a Mitchell Scholar over the past six years. West Virginia Wesleyan is listed in the 2014 U.S. News Best College Guide as a first tier regional college in the south and also listed in the Great Schools at Great Prices category.
As a new co-curricular offering, the Athletic Marching Band is designed to be a fun, dynamic experience of student engagement in addition to high quality music. The new Director will be expected to recruit and enroll approximately 35-40 new members each year with and ultimate goal of more than 100 members.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Athletic Marching Band reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and is responsible for planning and administering all aspects of the Athletic Marching Band program, including: Recruiting and retaining qualified students; working collaboratively with the Music Department and the office of Admission; developing the band during scheduled practices and competitions; maintaining responsibility for expense control with all program expenditures; mentoring band members in their academic performance to assure timely progress toward degree completion and graduation; developing a schedule for practice and performances.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing and growing a collegiate band, plus a Master of Music degree. Effective verbal and written communication skills; sound interpersonal skills in dealing with students, university personnel and members of the off-campus community; ability to operate a collegiate band program within budget parameters.
