Wesleyan to Serve as Host Location for InnovateHER 2016 National Competition
The U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) is launching InnovateHER 2016: Innovating for Women Business Challenge and Summit. The InnovateHER challenge and summit is a national competition that focuses on the development of “products and services that impact and empower the lives of women and families through local business competitions” (sba.gov). The Upshur County Economic Development Authority and Wesleyan LaunchLab are pleased to provide a host location for the competition. Other co-sponsors of this event are the New River Gorge Economic Development Authority and WVU LaunchLab.
Entries may be submitted by college students, business people, and community members from around the state and region. Up to ten finalists will be chosen to compete for Microsoft’s top three cash prizes totaling $70,000 dollars. Final pitches will be judged on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College on November 18. Submitted products and services must hit three criteria.
• Have a measurable impact on the lives of women and families (30%)
• Have the potential for commercialization (40%), and
• Fill a need in the marketplace (30%).
