Theatre Department to Present Production of ShortWorks Festival
West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Department of Theatre & Dance will present ShortWorks Festival from Friday, April 21 to Sunday April 23.
The ShortWorks Festival is a great opportunity for Wesleyan students and faculty members to present a short artistic piece. Over 20 different artistic pieces will be performed under 15 minutes. The pieces will include dancing, a short film, monologues, one-acts, and ten-minute plays that were written, directed, and choreographed by students. The pieces and performances will be held at the Virginia Thomas Law Center for Performing Arts (PAC) on Friday and Saturday.
The ShortWorks Festival weekend, in conjunction with Bobcat Entertainment, will also include site-specific works on Sunday, April 23 outside of the theater space.
“The idea that these are students’ works is really cool,” said Thomas Schoffler, associate professor of theatre. “They are short pieces and fun experiments. If you see something that is not as interesting, the piece will be over in only 10 to 15 minutes.”
One of the major highlights during the ShortWorks Festival is the performance of featured actress Shelby Garrett from Chicago, IL, a former teacher for the Governor’s School of the Arts during the summer who will present a piece about dating on Friday in the PAC.
Throughout the ShortWorks Festival weekend, there will be nearly 50 students and faculty members who will be participating.
