Vocal Ensembles to Present Spring Concert

On Sunday, April 10, West Virginia Wesleyan College will be hosting a spring choral concert titled “San Marco” at 4 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. The choral concert will feature the Wesleyan Singers, Concert Chorale, and Concentus Vocum, all under the direction of R. Daniel Hughes, Jr., director of choral activities and associate professor of music.

"San Marco" refers to Saint Mark's Cathedral in Venice, Italy, previously known as the Patriarchal Cathedral Basilica of Saint Mark. This Cathedral is a church infamous for its architectural beauty and design.  and the Cathedral was also the workplace for many important 14th-16th century musicians and composers such as Giovanni Gabrielli, Adrian Willaert, Claudio Monteverdi, and Baldassare Galuppi, who served as maestro di cappella, or orchestra leader. The concert features works which relate to this space in many different ways.

The Wesleyan Singers are a mixed ensemble of singers open to any who desire to sing in a group at Wesleyan. The Concert Chorale is a large auditioned mixed ensemble group of singers, while the Concentus Vocum is a select ensemble auditioned group of singers from the members of the Concert Chorale.

The concert will be a harmonic experience and is free and open to the public.
