Wesleyan Announces Beginning of 8th West Virginia Scholar Program
West Virginia Wesleyan College announces the eighth annual 2016 West Virginia Scholar program which began Monday, February 8. Applications will be accepted until April 10, 2016 for a chance to win a full scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The West Virginia Scholar program offers one high school junior the chance to win a full, four-year scholarship to Wesleyan, including tuition, and room and board to begin in the fall 2017 semester. Second place is a four-year, $5,000 scholarship, and third place is a four-year, $2,500 scholarship.
“The West Virginia Scholar program provides such a life-altering opportunity to the winner,” stated John Waltz, vice president for enrollment management. “The recipients have all achieved such incredible things in community service, athletics, the arts, and have bettered the world around them.
“Most importantly,” he continued, “the competition has also connected all applicants to scholarships from Wesleyan in so many areas and most have found they could make a college education more affordable than ever imagined.”
Those applications will be reviewed and up to 15 semifinalists will be announced on April 25. An interview process will follow that announcement. Up to 10 finalists will then be introduced on May 23. Between then and June 12, votes for the finalists will be cast online.
On June 22, the winner will be announced during a luncheon at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Applications can be accessed at www.wvscholar.com.
In addition to West Virginia Wesleyan and MetroNews, the sponsors for the 2016 West Virginia Scholar Program, now in its eighth year, are the Culpepper Wesleyan Scholar Award, West Virginia Homebuilders Association, West Virginia Forestry Association, the West Virginia Hospital Association, Friends of Coal, High Technology Foundation, and ZMM Architects and Engineers.
