Upshur County Candidate Forum to be Held November 1
On Tuesday, November 1st, West Virginia Wesleyan College is partnering with Generation Upshur and the Our Children, Our Future campaign to bring legislative candidates to campus for an open candidate forum and discussion at 6:30 p.m. in the social hall on the 3rd floor of the Benedum Campus Center on the Buckhannon campus. The nonpartisan event is free and open to the public.
The Our Children, Our Future (OCOF) coalition calls on state legislators to address and represent the concerns and hopes of West Virginia’s children and families with an aim to end child poverty statewide. Community members are encouraged to attend to hear candidates express their views on family, community health, and poverty issues important to local communities so they can make an informed vote on November 8th.
The Our Children, Our Future campaign is a statewide coalition of nonprofits, business groups, faith communities, schools, and civic groups who work on public policy, resulting in more than 20 policy ‘victories’ in the state for kids and families. This year’s platform issues include encouraging entrepreneurship, ensuring a fair workplace, K-12 education for ‘real life,’ debt-free higher education, stopping the opioid crisis, investing in broadband access, and much more.
