Five New Members Appointed to the Board of Trustees
West Virginia Wesleyan College recently announced the appointment of five new members to its Board of Trustees. The new members are Kari Carpenter Mattson, Michael Reger, Sarah Rinehart, Pamela Wovchko, and David Young.
Dr. Kari Carpenter Mattson, a native of Webster County, WV, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Wesleyan in 1995. She is currently an optometrist, owner and manager of EyeMax, PLLC in Lexington, KY. In this role, she provides full-time patient care and manages a multi-location and multi-doctor practice with 16 full-time employees. Dr. Mattson earned her Doctor of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan College. She is a member of the Kentucky Optometric Association and American Optometric Association.
Michael B. Reger, a 1989 Wesleyan graduate, is a Senior Vice President of USI Insurance in Charleston, WV. He began his insurance career from an on-campus interview with USF & G and was a commercial lines trainee in Charleston, WV before transferring to Chicago, IL. He returned to West Virginia to become an insurance broker with McDonough Caperton Insurance Group in Parkersburg. He later became the Branch Manager of Flat Top Insurance Agency in Morgantown, WV. Reger became a top producer for Acordia and Wells Fargo Insurance in Charleston, WV. He has earned numerous national and regional sales awards for outstanding production. He specializes in property and casualty insurance for the lumber, coal, oil, and gas, and transportation industries throughout West Virginia. A long family legacy at Wesleyan, he is the fourth generation to attend the College. He is a relative to the first student enrolled, Roy Reger, and one of the first Trustees, John W. Reger, for whom the Wesleyan Reger Society was named. His family’s German Bible, brought to the area by his forefathers in 1737, is on display inside Wesley Chapel.
Dr. Sarah J. Rinehart of Atlanta, GA, received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry in 1997 from Wesleyan. She earned her medical degree at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in 2001. Since June 2011, Dr. Rinehart has served as the Medical Director for the Department of Cardiovascular CT and MRI at Piedmont Hospital. She has been a cardiologist at that facility since July 2007, where she specializes in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. She is also known as an outstanding researcher pertinent to atherosclerosis utilizing both cardiovascular CT and MRI imaging modalities. She also is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. A co-author of many articles, she is a frequent presenter at medical conferences. At Wesleyan, she held leadership roles in the Office of Residence Life and student government.
Dr. Wovchko, chair of the faculty, teaches introductory and advanced courses in mathematics at Wesleyan. Graduating summa cum laude in 1995 with a B.S. degree in mathematics and secondary education, she completed an M.S. in Mathematics at West Virginia University and a Ph.D. in Educational Mathematics at the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Wovchko has served on many committees including Faculty Senate, Admission and Academic Standing Council, Calendar Committee, Judicial Board and faculty evaluation and search committees.
David Young, a 1987 Wesleyan graduate, is the Founder and Chief Consultant for Young and Associates, Ltd, Global Brand Strategists in London, England. He is a multilingual international branding and marketing consultant with 24 years of experience in the complex field of pharmaceutical communications. Born and raised in the United States, David has spent the last two decades living in several European countries. He holds an MBA in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, AZ, where he currently serves as Chairman of the European Region of the Thunderbird Global Council, an advisory board to the President. Young has a certificate in Japanese studies from Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan. He is a certified Master SCUBA diver, an Emergency SCUBA Medic, and enjoys skiing and horseback riding.
