Small Jazz Ensembles Set to Perform November 17
On Tuesday, November 17 at 6 p.m., West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Small Jazz Ensembles will take the stage in Loar Auditorium to present a recital of eclectic selections.
Each group, under the co-direction of members of Wesleyan’s jazz faculty, will perform various selections from the jazz tradition. The groups are Beyond Hardbop, a sextet that explores the music of composers from the Art Blakey “school;” Straight Ahead, a sextet that performs jazz standards; Approaching Standards, a quintet that focuses on blues and modal styles; and Explorations, a free-jazz ensemble that performs spontaneously-composed material.
Kyle Andrews, instructor of music, oversees the small group program at Wesleyan. For more information, please contact Andrews at Andrews_k@wvwc.edu.
The performance is free and open to the public.
