Hinkley Receives ALA Breath of Life-Young Advocates Award
Early this month West Virginia Wesleyan College student Kayla Hinkley was selected as a recipient of the American Lung Association (ALA) Breath of Life-Young Advocates Award. A junior international business major with minors in art and honors from Hurricane, WV, Hinkley will be completing her MBA at Wesleyan. On February 3rd, Hinkley was invited to the Lung Force Women’s Breakfast in Charleston, WV where she was presented the award.
The Lung Force Women’s Breakfast is an event hosted by the ALA in their effort to raise awareness against tobacco use. The ALA invites women from numerous communities in the area to the event as they honor their efforts in fighting against Big Tobacco. Hinkley has been involved with RAZE advocacy since 2006 and has conducted numerous anti-tobacco events in the Wesleyan community.
“Thank you to all of the members at the American Lung Association who told me all those years ago that I could make a difference,” commented Hinkley. “Thank you to my friends who have listened to my anti-tobacco rants for years.” Outside of her involvement with RAZE and the ALA, Hinkley is a Wesleyan Service Scholar, engaged in the Women’s Initiative Supporting Equality, and vice president of the International Student Organization.
