City Dubs New Sidewalk "Good to Great Way"
On Friday, September 9, Mayor David McCauley dedicated the new sidewalk that runs along the section of College Avenue from Meade Street to Railroad Avenue as “Good to Great Way” in honor of West Virginia Wesleyan College’s President Pamela Balch ’71 who will retire in December. The College partnered with the City of Buckhannon to realize the sidewalk project, with the College committing $15,000 to cover material costs. The new stretch of sidewalk on the eastern side of the College, in addition to the sidewalk project that was completed a few years ago on the western side of the College, now offers 35 American Disability Act access point. In addition to the sidewalk project, city crews built a new concrete apron around the Harmer Pillars that welcome you in front of the Lynch-Raine Administration Building. The pillars, dedicated in 1908, were power washed, re-mortared, and re-illuminated. The steps under Harmer Pillars were also rebuilt.
