Comedian Drew Lynch to Perform during Homecoming; Alumni Megert to Open
Drew Lynch, 2015 runner-up on America’s Got Talent, will be performing during West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Homecoming weekend on Friday, October 7 at 8:30 p.m. in the Culpepper Auditorium of the Virginia Law Center for the Performing Arts. He will be joined by alumni opening act Eric Megert, MBA ’07. Tickets are $10 and free for students.
In 2015, Drew Lynch captured the hearts of America with his Golden Buzzer performance on Season 10 of America's Got Talent. "The person I was before would probably never hangout with who I am today is the statement that resonated most in capturing audiences across the country, as they fell in love with Drew's charming wit and genuine vulnerability every week of the competition.
Lynch becoming a comedian was almost as unintentional as capturing America's hearts. Originally from Indianapolis, he moved to Los Angeles at the age of 19 with aspirations of becoming an actor, his childhood dream. An unexpected softball accident just a year into his acting career left Lynch with a severe stutter and crushed his hopes of ever performing again.
However, his continued drive to become an entertainer forced him in a different direction, often reflecting on the softball accident that humbly changed his life and gave him a career.” Lynch’s vulnerability in dealing with his stutter and making it relatable to real-life situations propelled him each week of the competition, advancing him to the finals and ultimately landing him first runner-up on season 10 of America's Got Talent Inspired by comedians Bo Burnham and Louis C.K, he now headlines Comedy Clubs across the country.
In addition, Lynch recently garnered a recurring role on the Marc Maron Show, has appeared on Dr. Oz, and as a celebrity guest on the game show Idiot Test. He is collaborating on a book, and ultimately becoming the actor he always dreamed of, with a now different and enlightened perspective on who he thought he was, and who he is today.
Megert graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with his Master in Business Administration in 2007. A native of Elkins, WV, Megert has the uncanny ability to talk and relate to everyone. He gets ideas for his comedic material from growing up in the country, his family, relationships, and weird observations he makes every day. Relying on his sarcasm and wit, Megert has played clubs in several cities throughout North Carolina. He has worked with Emmy-winning writers and nationally-touring comics that have appeared on Comedy Central, HBO, and Last Comic Standing. He is the host of Drunk Sportfan on iTunes and www.drunksportfan.com.
