Fourteenth Annual Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods Scheduled
It is the time of the year again when ghosts and goblins roam the streets collecting candy. Halloween is rapidly approaching, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. However, this time of year can be stressful, especially for those who have to think about how to feed their families. West Virginia Wesleyan College and the WE LEAD Poverty Reduction Team, in conjunction with the Upshur Parish House, will be hosting the fourteenth annual Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods on Saturday, October 31 between 6-7 p.m.
Wesleyan students will trick-or-treat for canned goods in the area around the College. If you live in this area, please have a few nonperishable food items ready for pick-up. Students will be wearing a “Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods” name tag. All goods are welcomed, but some goods especially needed are green beans, evaporated milk, yams, corn, pie filling, and other Thanksgiving items.
For those wishing to donate but live farther away from the College, items can be dropped off at the Parish House Monday-Friday between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The Parish House is located on the corner of College Avenue and Sedgwick Street.
The Parish House is a local resource that helps so many residents of Upshur County, but is only made possible by the help of the community. Various resources are on hand such as emergency food, clothing, household and hygiene supplies, utility assistance, information about job opportunities, and much more.
For more information or if you would like to volunteer, please contact the Parish House at (304) 473-8490 or Ashley Cooper at firstname.lastname@example.org or 304-661-5800.
