Big Bands To Perform on March 16
On Thursday, March 16, the West Virginia Wesleyan College Big Bands will be performing the annual spring concert in the Culpepper Auditorium at the Virginia Thomas Law Center for Performing Arts (PAC) at 7:30 p.m. The Big Band concert is free admission and open to the public.
The Big Band will consist of two different bands of 18 members in each.
Big Band One, directed by James Moore, department chair and associate professor of music, and Kyle Andrew '13, music instructor, will be performing was musical pieces conducted and arranged by Oliver Nelson in 1967. The masterpiece work is called Kennedy Dream, a piece in honor of former president John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Songs include “Let the Word Go Forth,” “A Genuine Peace,” “The Rights of All,” “Tolerance,” and more.
Also featured in Thursday’s performance will be Big Band 2. Big Band 2 will be performing music that was conducted by Quincy Jones.
Other selections include arrangements by Gil Evans and Benny Carter.
