West Virginia Wesleyan is a residential campus that offers a wide range of activities and organizations. Over 80 percent of Wesleyan’s students live on-campus. According to the most recent National Student Engagement Survey, more than 80 percent of Wesleyan students spend more than five hours a week on activities outside of the classroom.
In addition to being an outstanding academic institution, West Virginia Wesleyan has a proud athletic tradition dating back well over 100 years. The Bobcats compete at the NCAA Division II level and are members of the Mountain East Conference. West Virginia Wesleyan is proud to support 21 varsity programs within the Athletic Department that have won 220 conference championships and counting. At West Virginia Wesleyan our athletes not only excel on the athletic fields but also in the classroom. During the 2013-2014 academic year, West Virginia Wesleyan student-athletes carried a 3.0 GPA as a department.
A large percentage of Wesleyan students also participate in performing arts. The Theatre and Dance Department presents 4-6 faculty-directed shows each year in the new $7.2 million Virginia Thomas Law Center for Performing Arts. The Wesleyan Music Department offers numerous performance groups, many of which tour nationally and internationally. Ensembles that are open to both majors and non majors include: Concert Band, Concert Chorale, Concentus Vocum, Percussion Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Wesleyan Dance Company, Wesleyan Jazz Band, Wesleyan Singers, and the Wind Ensemble.
The College also features a wide range of outdoor recreation opportunities. Among the many off-campus weekend adventures students enjoy are: caving, cycling, horseback riding, paintball, rock climbing, skiing, and whitewater rafting.
Over one-third of Wesleyan students belong to one of nine national Greek organizations. We also feature over 70 campus organizations including a campus radio station (C-92) and a student newspaper (Pharos).
Religious life opportunities include Campus Catholic Ministries (CCMA), Christian Life Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kappa Phi, Sigma Theta Epsilon, and United Methodist Student Movement. Wesleyan offers a weekly ecumenical chapel service each Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., a Catholic Mass each Saturday, and a Taize worship service each month.
Nearly all Wesleyan students are engaged in community service. The College has a strong partnership with the Stockert Youth Center and the Upshur Parish House.
Finally, Campus Activities Board schedules entertainment throughout the year including concerts, comedians, films, game shows, and novelty acts.
Wesleyan’s Student Life program provides many opportunities for leadership growth and the development of life-long friendships.
