TITLE OF POSITION: Artist-in-Residence / Visiting Assistant Professor

POSITION SUMMARY: This is a non-renewable, nine-month visiting position in the Art Department at West Virginia Wesleyan College. 

COMPENSATION: $30,000, health benefits, private studio space, private office space, solo exhibition

POSITION DUTIES: We are in search of an interdisciplinary printmaking Artist-in-Residence to teach foundational studio and art history courses, while producing a body of work for exhibition during spring semester. Candidates whose focus is screen printing will be favored. Successful candidates will supply evidence of their capacity or reputation for creating new and engaging work. Candidates who can provide concrete ways of relaying their knowledge of professional practices/skills to students through workshops and/or other avenues will be favored. 

This 3/3 load appointment includes maintaining an open studio for student visits and creative interaction. Courses will include Art History Before 1900, Visual Experience (Intro to Art for Non-Majors), Design Fundamentals (Color Theory), Printmaking, and Contemporary Topics in Art (Upper Level Special Topics of your design on a topic of your choosing). Sample syllabi and course materials for standing courses are available as necessary.

Required: M.F.A. in the visual arts at the time the appointment begins, and demonstrated ability to work across the specified disciplines. Recent MFA graduates are encouraged to apply.
Preferred: Notable professional/exhibition experience. 

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Art Department at West Virginia Wesleyan College provides a liberal arts program for students seeking a degree in an art or design related field. ABOUT THE COLLEGE: Founded in 1890, West Virginia Wesleyan is a private residential college that is affiliated with The United Methodist Church. The College has 1,400 students and offers 43 majors and 36 minors along with graduate programs in athletic training, business administration, education, creative writing, and nursing. The College’s General Studies program is grounded in the liberal arts, while all students are encouraged to pursue international travel, internships, and research opportunities.

  5. Required: Proposed syllabi for Art History Before 1900 and the Contemporary Topics in Art courses. 
  6. Optional: you may also include syllabi for any of the other listed courses. Please note, that these sample syllabi do not necessarily have to be for sections of the courses you have previously taught, but instead should illustrate how you would teach the courses at WVWC.
