West Virginia Wesleyan’s new Wellness Center is scheduled to open in January of 2012. The 6,000 square-foot facility that will be located on the first floor of Jenkins Hall will contain two dedicated multi-purpose spaces that can be used for a variety of activities including clinics, Zumba classes, aerobics, and other exercise programs.
The Center will include nautilus equipment, state-of-the-art cardio equipment, stretch equipment, weights and racks, boxing/punching equipment, exercise bikes, treadmills, steppers, and elliptical equipment.
In addition, the facility will feature limited locker spaces, stretching areas, and a third multi-purpose room, lounges and common space that can be used for Wellness activities and evening meetings.
The Center will also provide valuable work and internship experiences for exercise science majors and other students. Nationally, 84% of college students exercise at least once per week and 50 percent participate in fitness activities three or more times per week.
The overarching goal of the Wellness Center is to improve the health of members of the Wesleyan campus community.
