Mu Hu is currently Assistant Professor in Department of Communication. He also serves
as Director of School of Social and Behavioral Science. He teaches Introduction to Media
Studies, Persuasion, Intercultural Communication, Seminar of Communication Studies, and
Fundamentals of Oral Communication. His research interests include media effects and media
technology and psychological well-being. When he is not working, he likes travelling, playing
basketball, and watching National Geographic and Discovery Channel.

I currently teach Newspaper Practicum, Radio Broadcasting Practicum, News Media Writing, Public Relation Writing, Digital Video Field Production, Publication Design, Layout andProduction, Public Relations Campaign, and Fundamentals of Oral Communication. My
academic interests are continued publication of fiction genre novels, media effects and
the Internet, and agenda setting theory. I am an avid sports fan and am a volunteer sports
photographer for the college. My sports photography can be found at my personal web site. I enjoy taking to the West Virginia roads on my Cannondale bicycle
and exploring the beauty that this state has to offer. I am a published fiction writer with several
novels and short stories completed in the past 15 years, including "Journey of the Daggers," "The Cubit," "The
Djed,"and "0-Time: PUSH*." My summers are dedicated to the craft and I spend lots of time
outside the house, by a lake or on a rock next to one of numerous West Virginia rivers, writing. I
am also an avid footbag player (hacky sack). I have been playing for many years and I still enjoy
kicking solo or with a group.

Long is currently Dean of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning and Professor of
Communication at West Virginia Wesleyan College (WVWC). Long served as Chair of the
Faculty and served ex officio on the WVWC Board of Trustees in 2007-08 before becoming
Wesleyan's first graduate program dean. Long joined the faculty of WVWC in 1987 after
teaching at the University of New Haven and the University of Bridgeport. Long has also served
as an independent leadership, communication and advocacy training consultant and was a 4-
H Agent in Hancock County, WV in the 70s. Long served as the Executive Director of the
Eastern Communication Association 1995-98 and is currently on the editorial board of four
communication discipline journals.
Long taught public relations and interpersonal communication classes before becoming dean, and often leads May term international travel courses. Long's research interests and publications are primarily in instructional and organizational communication contexts and she has a long history of incorporating service learning and community-based research in her classes. For example, she and Dr. Robert Rupp co-taught a seminar on Coal Mining Accident Reports and Safety after the Sago mine disaster. Many of the seminar's suggestions were incorporated in Davitt McAteer's report to then Governor Joe Manchin and have since been implemented by MSHA.
In her leisure time, Long enjoys travelling and gardening, and most especially playing with her two-year old granddaughter, Sophia. At department functions, Long's special salads have become faculty and student favorites.

Katherine Thweatt teaches Interpersonal Communication, Public Address, Fundamentals of Oral Communication, Communication Theory, Communication Research Methods, Communication Internship, Cultural Impact on Organizations. Her research Interests are nonverbal communication, diabetes, and interpersonal communication. Her hobbies include pets, baking, travelling, skiing, biking, and growing Tomatoes.

Dr. Mary Toale serves as the faculty co-advisor to Lambda Pi Eta (LPH), the National Communication Honor Society, on campus, is on the National Faculty Advisory Board for LPH, and is an active member of the National Communication Association as well as the Eastern Communication Association. Mary was most recently an Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Communication Arts & Sciences at Baldwin-Wallace College (BW). During over ten years of service at BW, Mary served as Faculty Senate President, Humanities Division Chair, Department Chair, and on a variety of committees, boards, and student groups. She won the prestigious Strosacker Award for Excellence in Teaching at Baldwin-Wallace College. Mary’s current scholarly interests include communication research, communication theory, nonverbal communication, digital media and design, and instructional communication. Some of Mary’s hobbies include biking, photography, and genealogy.
