Artist in Residence holding a workshop

Artist-in-Residence Program

Each year a new artist arrives to spend an academic year with our students. The artist teaches foundational courses in art and history, while maintaining a professional studio space on campus. They also present a solo exhibition of work at the Sleeth Gallery during the spring semester. This program, the only one of its kind in West Virginia, provides students the opportunity to network with four unique artists over the course of their time at Wesleyan.

Tonja Torgerson, MFA, Syracuse University
Areas of instruction: Foundations, Art History, Printmaking
Special Topics course: Explorations in Printmaking

Tonja's AIR exhibition: Plagued

While in residence, Tonja led four workshops:

  • Gold Leafing
  • Screenprinting T-shirts
  • Build Your Own Vacuum Table
  • Ship Your Art Like a Boss (Crate Building)
